For those that saw the " Do you agree to WhatsApp’s updated terms of service!!", and didn't bother to read more about it, this is an enlightenment.
Whatsapp users, start getting ready for an onslaught of messages from companies looking to patronize you. The company outlined in a blog post the kind of interactions it wants to have, including more targeted ads . However, in order to do this, WhatsApp will share your phone number with Facebook’s system but your phone number will not be visible to anyone, and thanks to the end-to-end encryption your messages and chat will remain private because even whatsapp cannot get access to them.
The company has this to say about the recent update.
" People use our app every day to keep in touch with the friends and loved ones who matter to them, and this isn't changing. But as we announced earlier this year, we want to explore ways for you to communicate with businesses that matter to you too, while still giving you an experience without third-party banner ads and spam. Whether it's hearing from your bank about a potentially fraudulent transaction, or getting notified by an airline about a delayed flight, many of us get this information elsewhere, including in text messages and phone calls. We want to test these features in the next several months, but need to update our terms and privacy policy to do so".
The good news is they have also created an opt-out method, so don’t go cussing Mark Zuckerberg yet. You can opt out of this whole Sharing thing, if you already clicked the ''I Agree" button follow this to undo it.
